The Eth’Shalar of Dor Shatel

The Eth'Shalar is perhaps the most organized and most pompous of The Five Clans. They are rich and operate in Dor Shatel: the second biggest city of the empire. Being elves, they are strong within the Arcanum and particularly influential within the world of politics.

It is common for the females of the clan to marry outside the Empire to keep allies close and those daughters that are not married off, tend to be sent as emissary to other kingdoms and distant lands. In this way, the women of Eth’Shalar keep a close eye on the social and political movements outside the empire.

The males, on the other hand, tend to enter the Arcanum to become wizards and sorcerers. Due to their creation of magical items, as well as the continued and prosperous commerce with Dendis to the north, the city is booming. The clan has brought both commodities and cultural knowledge from the rest of Alfénia into the capital.

Tergos Eth’Shalar is the current leader of the family and the one that sits on the council of the Emperor. There have been rumours regarding the ways in which his family have used magic, but they are still well respected as great enforcers of the law. Unlike his short-lived human compatriots, Tergos has been lead of the family since the formation of the empire and is revered on the council as a keeper of the great histories.

The Kvitravn Clan of Kher Ravn

The Kvitravn Clan (or white raven clan in the common tongue) was founded by Brom Skallsgard's father, Gorn, at the fall of Kher Ravn. It was a white raven that appeared in Gorn's dream to lead him to the south. It was at this point that the dwarves decided to abandon the efforts to retake the city and it is widely known that this move saved the clan from total annihilation. When they joined with the forces to the south, the White Raven flag was always brought along to show that the Kvitravn would never flee from a battle.

Forty years ago, after a difficult battle, Brom was sitting in blood and he saw the vision again: the white raven leading him back to his home. He confronted Gorn and tried to have him join himbut his father refused. He said his own vision had led him to the south so to the south he would remain, and that this was Brom's vision and so Brom should follow it.

So the clan was split in half; the sons and daughter of Gorn went to this new mission to reconquer the land they were born in. It was only after their success that Brom and Gorn would reunite the clan and once a year would feast in the same hall at the solstice.

The Dunis Clan of the East Coast

Clan Dunis chiefly comprises of human and half breeds such as half-orcs and half-elves. They are generally nomads and live on the outskirts of civilisation defending the edges of the empire.

The clan rally under the banner of King Ogran Dunis. It is said that the other half breed clans follow him as he was the first to find a place for their people to continue their unique way of life. There are settlements that have been established under King Dunis’ protection along the east coast of the continent. These outposts protect the sea line from invaders making their way into the Empire and in exchange Nexus grants the clan for free passage along the north and south passage for their seasonal raids.

The Kvitravn clan, Ulfsteinn clan and Silfrbjorn clan are all bannermen of King Dunis and both support him in war, as well as relying on him in times of peace. Amongst them the most prominent of the clans is the Kvitravn clan, led by Jarl Yorna Bromsdottir. She rose to fame after the many successful raids on the islands on the coasts of the Nirlath Empire whose eyes look towards the beacon of Telacia with an ever-hungry gaze. So far, Kvitravn’s raids have kept the Telacian empire safe, and so even though the Dunis people are considered outsiders they are none the less regarded as very strong allies.

The Dunis are considered more barbaric than the other clans even though their leadership is composed of shamans that have given them longsight over the lands of the empire and therefore an edge in battle that they may not have achieved if left solely to political means.

All of the clans follow the same gods although these are not those of the main pantheon of the empire.  Clan Dunis has little interest in magic because the old spirits of the forest guide their shamen who seek old wisdom and strength from the primal forces of the spirit totems. Ozo Dragonbane Dunis is a shaman of their people and leader. She is half orc and many consider her to be one of wisest mortals the empire has seen. Her orc blood allows her to tap into the collective knowledge of her ancestors.

Oreathor Clan of The Night's Row Mountains

The Oreathor Clan comes from the southeast part of the continent in the chain of mountains called The Night's Row. Some say that this clan is responsible for the formation of the Empire itself since they have long known the threat of, and fought the Crystal Fiends.

The dwarf who sits on the council is not their leader but his younger brother called Guyrock Oreathor brother to King Meilock Oreathor. In the traditional dwarven manner, the Oreathor separated powers from inner leadership and empire leadership. King Meilock is the military leader while his younger brother handles the politics with the empire at Nexus.

deloiselle_edited.jpg

De Loiselle of Port Elis

The De Loiselle are one of the many families that sit on the council although given their human lifespan, their supremacy on the council will be measured in decades rather than centuries. Their leader is Vincent De Loiselle. He made his name brokering trading partnerships with Dendis and Erneor. His family comes from the city of Port Elis on the northeast coast of the inner sea. Under the stewardship of the De Loiselle family, the city of Port Elis has developed the largest and fastest fleet of ships in the empire and if goods are being transported it is most likely De Loiselle ships that are used.

The Runehammer Clan of Khalob

The strong Runehammer dwarven clan lives in the city of  Khalob on the western shore of the inner sea. They are the oldest nation on this part of Ires. Their tunnel network is so vast that some say that the very islands of Nexus were built from their mining debris.

The Runehammer have been the providers for the alliance that sits at the heart of the Empire. They are known to work hard and protect their lands with unrelenting fervor. They live in a society so organized that it leaves few with nothing to do. They live all together united work with a singular mind and fight for the protection of their strong traditions. Although this is a comfort for some, it has led the wilder spirits feel rejected and misplaced so it is not rare that you will see stragglers of clan Runehammer trying to find a way to be useful. They are strong tacticians but prefer to fight under the ground in tunnels and this style of fighting has led them to develop the greatest shield walls.

Of all the creatures of the empire they are the most resilient to using the Arcane flow in the lands.

The Runehammer craftsmanship in unrivalled. They are often the architects of new forts around the empire. Their leader is called Glorn son of Ghor Runehammer, known as Ghor the Builder. He is the second leader the clan has seen. He took the crown after his father Ghor passed 10 years ago and is known for his military prowess.

The Council of Nexus

The Empire is ruled by the Emperor but he is guided by The Council which is formed of a representative of five of the clans. The members of the Council are listed below:

  • Guyrock Oreathor – brother to the King Oreathor of The Night’s Row, the West

  • Ozo Dragonsbane Dunis - Far Seer of the Dunis Clan

  • Tergos Eth’Shalar – been on the Council since the formation of the empire

  • Vicent De Loiselle – Master of Trade
